A Mom's Life

Hurry! Hurry! Don’t be late!
There’s no time to ruminate!

Put on that coat and grab that bag,
Run out the door, no time to lag.

Forget about the little things,
The sunset and the joy it brings,

The flowers and the nighttime sky,
The full moon and the firefly.

Forget the rivers and the sea,
Or the woman who you used to be.

It’s time to work, no time to waste,
Life is lived in constant haste,

Wake up, prep the kids and go,
Don’t forget the coffee though.

Go to work and smile wide,
Rush home and shove it down inside.

Cook that meal, clean that sink!
Get them something cold to drink!

Wipe that bottom, wash that hair,
Put on their socks and underwear.

Jammies, teeth then walk the pup.
I’ll be right back, so please wait up!

Now settle in and cuddle tight,
Read a story, say goodnight.

Tired, tired, as can be.
Tired, tired, no energy.

Tired, tired, watch TV.
A shell of who I used to be.
